"Splash Page Duel" Public Critique Encouraged
Winner: =CoFeRoSa Both fighters had a good sense of action. Pic-pic with his attack to the groin, and Coferosa tying his opponent into submission. When comparing the two, Coferosa had a compelling entry with the feel of action, contrast, and emotion of both fighters.

"Splash Page Duel"
Winner: ~aznyueying These two entries are pretty even I have to say. Wandering Ronins entry shows a bit more care in line work and effort in colour so I commend that. What's drawing me to Anzu's is the fight choreography. The posing is a little awkward but I can see how Iana is sweeping her leg as she strike with her arm.

Winter Duel
Winner: ~Eachy-Peachy I had trouble understanding both of these duels. Peachy had slightly better panel flow and clearer art. Both duels could have done with some clearer action shots. The close ups of faces and upper torsos don't really give an indication of whats happening with the rest of their bodies.

"Splash Page Duel"
Winner: ~ZeeBluePiggy Both entries were done pretty well. Shiade displayed a rather interesting humorous style with the net faces in the background. ZeeBlue's hard work payed off with the detailed lines and color to go with the action of the fight. Both fighters put up a well round fight. Good potential in becoming well known duelers of SDL.

"Splash Page Duel" Regular Verdict
Winner: historiascretinas. CofeRosa had a well painted piece but their was more of a struggle shown than a victory. Historiascretinas though not fully colored, he drew a strong K.O. scene with good heavy and rough lines that micmic the character's appearance.

"Splash Page Duel" Regular Verdict
Winner: ~SunTap This duel was excellent to see! Both opponents obviously put forward their all and it shows. Echo submitted a full color and wonderful entry but in the end the verdict went with Suntap for a more dynamic execution and angle. Nice work to you both.

Duel on a Boat
Winner: ~Tofubeast It must be difficult to fight on a boat considering that the ocean is a constant moving base. Strawberry had a well put entry, color-wise. In Tofu's entry, the boat wasn't as large as in her opponent's, but the fight captured in it was much more compelling. The sense of an fighter using nature to her advantage is a great tactic, which lead to my final verdict of the match.

"Splash Page Duel"
Winner: ~TheSixofHearts There were elements of both I liked. Addict's had a nice composition, stronger anatomy and back ground. However it was a bit static and didn't show that the duelers engaged in battle. Heart's piece told me more about the situation the dueler's were in and what's lead up to this point.

"Splash Page Duel" Regular Verdict
Winner: =CoFeRoSa A very difficult verdict to give between two very talented artists. I think that while I prefered Sketch's heavily stylised and graphic background to Cofesora's more vague and undefined rooftop, Sketch's primary figures seemed less dynamic overall then Cofesora's blurred visual memory. I also think that, given Sketch's strong, bold style, imitating Cofesora's more ';painterly' , suggestive style for impact lines and the like was a mistake that diluted much of the impact of the dynamic scene.

"No Extensions, No Exceptions"
"Regular Duel" Regular Verdict
Winner: ~sasukedamien I was hesitant to give this win in either direction. Oldbegger treated this duel as a splash page duel even though the stipulation states otherwise, though of course resorting to a splash page is neither outof the ordinary nor disallowed. The splash page was wonderful, showed a nice attempt at angle, and shows a good hit in. However I voted in the end for Sasuke because of his more comic adhering format with more story intermingled--he does need to work on adding backgrounds and different angles for his characters. A little bit of computer generated text wouldnt hurt either.

B/W
"Splash Page Duel" Regular Verdict
Winner: ~chisuuKei I had to sit down for a long time with this duel and simply come back to it time and time again to absorb all the impact and hard work put into both sides before coming to a decision. IN the end I went with Chisuukei's more dynamic composition and clear cut victory, on top of his cleaner than usual work. I loved Ryuuen's entry and it really characterizes how much his character loves to fight and appears happy all the time--but this image doesn't look like it is landing the finishing or winning blow, more like Rogan is exploiting his blindness and side stepping, even if by a close miss. Marvelous duel! I love seeing great work like this! Keep it up!

"Eye Candy" Splash Page Duel
"Splash Page Duel" Public Critique Encouraged
Winner: ~Zaifon When looking at a splash page duel, regardless of the stipulation, I think it is key to be able to tell who is the winner and where the winning strike occured, which Zaifon so expertly shows here. On the flipside I think that Andrimnir's entry also needs some recognition for the feeling that it produces. You can tell that there was a fight here but it was not a fight in haste or hate, but fuelled by a brotherly connection to help each of the young fighters improve. And while it goes against the typical idea of a splash page duel, I thought I should mention that we enjoyed it as well. Good stuff both of you, happy dueling.

Winner: ~Degulus Good amount of fight from both sides of this duel. Nosleep's was stronger in expressions and characterisation I feel. The panels and line work also add energy to each page in a way that's difficult to express in 3d frames. However the fight choreography really impressed me in Deg's and I also really liked the angles chosen to help add drama to each frame. Nice work, guys.

Chibi Duel
"Splash Page Duel" Public Critique Encouraged
Winner: ~Treah Good work both of you, and an interesting stipulation. I thought Dragontamer had a nice entry, though the colours were a little bit sloppy and didn't quite enhance the lines. On top of this, I didn't see any "chibi" in the entry, just kid versions of the characters. That might sound like nitpicking, however the common version of chibi is a very big head and other smaller deformed features from the neck down. This is something that Treah captures exactly, and with a slightly stronger composition and funnier composition.

weekend duel "Regular Duel" Regular Verdict
Winner: ~TheOtherChosenOne Both of these duels were creepily similiar. I went with OtherChosen because the action was more clear and it was quite clear who had the upperhand whereas in Tywenart's entry, its harder to make out facial and hair features to distringuish the characters from eachother, and the angle slightly less dynamic.

Winner: Winner: ~underwoodwriter
Underwoodwriter's comment lines were laugh-out-loud funny, and his splash page matched it well. The use of stylization with the heavy brush strokes a great way to stylize the drawing. Rhythmicstars, on the other hand, had superior scene-setting, doing a great job with the complex background and great figures. While there was a story conveyed, it was not as humorous nor as interesting as underwoodwriter's. Still, a worthy duel. Good job to both of you.

Regular Verdict
Winner: *Akulas-Psyhos
the teamwork between VampireKing and Number-seventeen was quite impressive... for the first 6 pages. the extreme drop in quality for the last 5 pages definitely left a lot to be desired. In contrast, akulas impressed with strong cinematic combat shots that really emphasized the aggression and fast paced action. while not as clean as the opponents entry, it depicted a strong beatdown with consistent quality throughout all the pages, although... there does seem to be one more opponent who's fate isnt addressed. While VK and NS's entry likely addressed the second characters fate in the later pages, these pages are quite hard to read. given what's available to work with, i think Akula came through with a slightly stronger front, and a great attempt at difficult angles and renders.

1 Hour Duel
"Splash Page Duel" Regular Verdict
Winner: =Sketchfighter316 It is always difficult to judge a one hour duel. Such time constraints force duelists into picking what they feel is most important in the image and really focusing on one point. In Mehp's entry we see that action was the focus and there isa clear and solid win hit. However, the work is very rough, the angle is flat, and the composition is weakened by the characters being in the middle of the page. Sketch's work overall feels tighter and even though you can't see the finishing hit, you can feel it in Sketch-kun's and his opponent's bosy postures that you just missed something awesome. The overall aesthetics of the piece under time constraint is what pushes it up and over the top for the win. Nice work.

duel in the snow
Winner: ~luckykoifish Although a little lacking in fight, along with the pacing being a bit slow at times, I found that there was a lot to like about LuckyKoi's entry. The effort put into showing something in a fresh and exciting manner really made Koi's entry stand out. Details like the dropping snow were really cool, though the slow close up slowed it down it was a still a cool idea. Master's entry didn't have as many pacing problems although the characterisation feels a little dry in comparison.

Winner: *EcchiSketch I was really attracted to how Ecchi portrayed his half of the duel. Strawberry's action was a little stronger and her colour work really makes the image pop. The posing is a little awkward though and the perspective is a bit awkward further into the back ground. Ecchi's did a really god job I think in capturing the feeling of a split second movement, and that's really appealed to me.

Winner: ~NaritaxUzumaki While the artistic merit in Rock Me's entry was a bit stronger, I felt the storywork could be a bit more. The panels were also a little hard to follow, especially that first page. There is more introducing the two characters than there is in the way of fight. Uzu, I was disappointed in the sharp drop on quality in your entry, do your best to make something you're proud of to go with your wonderful storytelling skills. But the characters were cute and interacted well. Nice work.

"Splash Page Duel" Regular Verdict
Winner: *Kuga-Maru We felt that were was more action in Kuga's entry and that it more effectively captured the idea of the splash page duel--Sketch's entry was nice and it was obvious who had won the battle, but it wasn't as dynamic as Kuga's. At the same time, Kuga's entry was very dynamic and exciting to the eyes, but the winner perhaps was not as clear, though it was quite obvious that his character had the higher ground and hence could be percieved as winning. In the end I went with Kuga's somewhat more traditional, but action packed approach for the win. Nice duel to you both.

"Splash Page Duel" Public Critique Encouraged
Winner: ~Echo-chaser We chose Echo because of his wonderful action poses, dynamics, and wonderful colour work. As far as content, I think it could stand to be a little more clear who is the winner of the round. For instance, while your character does have a gleam in his eye, the opponent is still on top, so to speak, and the clear, defining moment of your win is not shown. Killjoy, your entry was nicely done, and gave a better sense of who was winning, but the red text ruined the feel, and also killed your composition in one fell swoop. Let the art do the talking and leave the words for your artist's comment. Nice work to you both.

"Splash Page Duel" Regular Verdict
Winner: *ShikakuSuika
The taichou were particularly impressed with the use of speedlines and speed colours in MTC's entry. Its probably one of the best duels in his gallery to date as far as composition, colour, and actually capturing his opponent pretty well. However, Shika's duel had a stronger composition and colour work, on top of her new found vigor for improvement, including some lovely work with fabric folds. The win method was much clearer. The way she chose to crop her work to slim and strengthen her composition was also a great call and pushes her over the top. Lovely work overall.
