Splash Page Duel - theme:Ferocity "Splash Page Duel" Regular Verdict
WINNER: :devEevilartbunny: Bunny takes this duel home with a win over Muffin. The composition is very nicely done and the color combination is stunning and catching to the eye. The dynamic action also lends a certain character to the entry. Muffin made a good effort of showing a lighter side of a fierce duel. In the end though, the winner is clearly visible in Bunny's entry.

Splash page duel "Splash Page Duel" Regular Verdict
WINNER:*Mehp's entry features more of an exciting and more complex story to tell. Where Kunnai's entry seems a little incomplete (no color or background, part of the image is missing?), Meph's entry features a fully colored piece with a background and more character interaction.

Fight for your life' "Regular Duel"
Winner: *JesterCapp Both entries had thier own flavour and appeal. While Terny's work was unfinished it felt semi-polished and was leading into something very entising to the reader, with great angles and expressions. But it was submitted late, and unfinished. Jestercapp's work was obviously finished but had a rougher quality to it, which was sometimes harder to follow with the eye and had an abrupt ending. In the end, after several opinions, we awarded the win to Jester.

3 page bargaining duel. "No Weapons Duel" Regular Verdict
Winner: *EvilArtBunny Bunny wins here be just a hare ( HAH get it?) While her story and art was colourful and solid, the lack of backgrounds makes a stark contrast and told us she could have devoted a little more time to the piece. With Kitsu, the story was good as well, but not linking the pages together really kills the action as you search through her gallery for the rest of the work. We also felt that the premise of the ghost story tellings was clever and too much to pass up. Nice work both of you.

14 Jun 2009 - 14 Jun 2009 ! "Splash Page Duel" Regular Verdict
Winner*AndMaybeASoda From the overall appearance of the two duels. I always do like to see a good action scene since they're more exciting to browse while judging. "AMS" created a rather interesting depiction of getting a win and it had a better closure on who the victor was between the two. Learn from eachother's duel and hope you continue your battles among artists and friends.

"Splash Page Duel" Public Critique Encouraged
Winner: =CoFeRoSa Coferosa delivers again with his signature loose colouring style and brilliant composition skills. His linework is a little stronger than usual as well. Fred, I enjoyed your entry as well. The colourwork was nice but when you spread all the white out over the top of it it is hard to make out any of the work you put into it, and muddles the rest of the colours. While both duels define clear winners, I feel that Coferosa's duel is more dynamic in terms of posing and composition and for these features deserve the win.
Critique Fred: Fred as stated in the general commentation found on the `RoninsUltramix page, I feel that your colour work could have been stronger. when you added the white part which I assume is for the smoke bomb, you really flattened your lines and mudded your colours. Keeping the lines above the colour spare for in a few select places might be good for your work. Making all the colours solid except for the steam might also improve the quality and keep everything clean. Concept wise, I think you could go a little futher with your own characters pose; Kompak falls down and all your character was doing is standing--did he not have anything to do with the falling? Did his opponent's bomb misfire? These are things I should be able to tell without having to read the artists comments.
Critique Cofe: It is hard to see your opponent at all in this entry. Giving your opponent some screen time too will help strengthen your duels in some cases. Your compositional eye is very good here--the flailing arms lead the eye around the page in a circular motion. Nice work.

Bamboo Field Battle "Splash Page Duel" Regular Verdict
Winner: ~helix-fate There was a lot of debate about which of these pieces was better. The answer is that both peices are great. We enjoyed the composition and style of Dark's entry, however the characters and the background meshed together and hit the viewer all at once which made it harder to see what was happening. This is in part due to the colouring. Also, we could not immediately tell who was the clear winner in the image, which is essencial in splash page work. On top of the skillful colouring in Helix's entry, with beautiful light sourcing we might add, we could clearly tell which character had the upper hand, leaving no doubt in our mind who the winner was. Nice work, Happy dueling!

winner; *conartist18 Conartist created a great entry using unique angles, well lit environment, and a good sense of detail. Megzheartcho had a nice effect but it didn't break through the talent conartist bought to the table. Nicely done from the two of you and best of luck in your next matches.

Summer Themed Fashion Duel "Regular Duel" Regular Verdict
WINNER: ~JBCBlank Dancing-Sword's piece has a nice gestural quality to the poses. There's a good sense of movement here, but some work on anatomy and strengthening the scenery could help bring more interest to the image. JBCBlank's entry also had some anatomy flaws, however the image tells a much stronger story than Sword's entry does. This narrative quality as well as the composition give the image an overall feeling of completeness. It's a nice job from both duelers, and we wish you luck in future duels.

Best Poem Interpretation!"Splash Page Duel"Regular Verdict
Winner: ~YamiRedPen This is new territory as far as a duel. Rather than playing to a poem, you two attempted to translate a poem into a picture, which was very enjoyable as a premise. In the end we went with Yami because we felt that it was a bit more creative in its interpertation, though we almost did not chose her because her opponent, in the image, was getting the better of her, and as you know in a splash page duel, your character should be perceieved easily as the winner, as a general rule of thumb. We enjoyed Ronins entry, but felt that the translation from text to image was a bit too literal. Happy dueling in the future.

"Greyscale Duel" Private Critique Encouraged
Winner: ~IVANPS Won by forfeit. Hotclipses character has taken a permanent injury which should be noted in future duels.
Ivanps: your duel was executed in a very sharp and clean manner. after rereading it, the sequence from beginning to end was nice and thought out. the main problem i have is that it is not clearly understandable when reading the first time (Mostly from the typo's). at the end of the second page though, the speech bubbles are placed in a way that does not let the eye flow from line to line, so the pace of the reader is interrupted. arranging the bubbles more strategically, or adding more panels to break up the speech bubbles more like the rest of your entry, would be best. Concerning the art, the hands are inaccurately drawn alot, so practice that a bit. the bridge also seems to spontaneously change size, from a narrow catwalk, to a 10 lane highway. consistency should also be taken into account for future duels.
